Senegal

Bacary Diémé is a Senegalese artist born in 1949 in Casamance. He studied at the Dakar School of Arts, plastic arts section, at the end of the 1960s.
Just like his peers, as Ibou Diouf and Badara Camara, his art is partly oriented towards tapestries, of which the illustrious Manufacture Nationale de la Tapisserie de Thiès, opened in 1966 and today Manufactures Sénégalaises des Arts Décoratifs, will produce without doubt the most beautiful works.
His works on paper are as many studies, reflections and projections in the creation of woven works.
The world of Bacary Diémé and his contemporaries is marked by the work of the master upholsterers of the Dakar School, Iba Ndiaye, Papa Ibra Tall and Pierre Lods.
